"Hidden gem"
My girlfriend and I had a function to attend in Geelong and booked Verner Place for one night. We were a little skeptical about our accommodation as it wasn't listed on TripAdvisor and bookings needed to be made direct to the property. Our hands were tied however, as there was an AFL game on that same weekend and very few places had vacancies, let alone for a reasonable rate.
We were arriving at night and had initial difficulty locating the place. Don't look for the villas themselves, but rather the street number, as the owners' house occupies most of the block. Our villa had a small off-the-street car park next to it.
Our skepticism was allayed at check-in where we were welcomed by name. We opted to pay upfront, although this was by no means required. Even though it's a small scale set-up they do take credit card. The owner (an older couple) made every effort to settle us in and we were provided with a key and could come and go as we pleased.
The villa itself was comprised of two rooms; a bedroom-living room-kitchen and a bathroom. Both rooms are exceptionally well maintained, spacious and clean. The bathroom contained a spa and shower. Kitchen had all the basic facilities and there was complimentary tea and coffee. Our only issue with the room was the bed, which whilst very comfortable was on casters.
Verner Place is a hidden gem. It is quite possibly the best-value accommodation we have ever stayed at and it will be our stay of choice next time we're in Geelong.
